Response to Jennifer S., Week 3

Very good post Jennifer!! AS Memorial Day comes many fail to acknowledge the true meaning to the holiday. Indeed, women are credited as well as men for their duty. Whether its the backgroud they play or the forfront gender indeed should not be the issue it what their task has been in making a difference!!!!!

Response to Anjum, Week 3

After reading through Chapter 8 of our Text. I too have realized how many roles have changed in the workforce. The stereotypical jobs of women have been filling up quicky by men and the sterotypical jobs of men have been filling up quickly by women. Indeed, it shows how anyone regardless of gender can perform a job. Ch. 8 also digs deep intoender roles throughout academics. While long ago, only males were "so-called" capable of being able to study in hard curriculums such as science and math. Today many females are studying in these curriculums as well as receiving honors in them. According to the text on pg. 192,there is a long-standing belief that females innately have less aptitude and ability in math and science. I definitely don't believe so when so many women are mastering such fields and becoming top leaders throughout.

Class Business Week 3: Young Women in Relationships

While watching a re-run of one of my favorite television shows "The Hills" I noticed a very interesting point made between a young couple in their early 20s, Heidi And Spencer. The couple is engaged however, they decided to take a mini break apart for their own space. During, their separation they have been constantly quarreling and arguing with one another over simple things. In the particular scene, Heidi was at a nightclub with her girlfriends and all of a sudden her ex-fiancee shows up. Instantly she gets upset that he's in the same venue as her and more upset at the fact he was surrounded by other women and being very flirtatious with the women as well. Heidi immediately creates a scene by storming out of the nightclub with Spencer following her. They then begin to argue and Heidi brings up a very interesting point about if it was her how would he react to her flirting with other men. She brings up the point that she would instantly be labelled as trashy or a whore with several guys surrounding her. This scence stood out to me simply because women are often labeled in situations such as this. They are always looked upon very differently. I think its very unfair for men to do such things and its "normal" or "alrite" but as soon a women does a act similar she automatically "trashy."

This specific episode also portrayed a gendered theme. Where both Heidi and Spencer were portrayed in a stereotypical that reflect conventional views of gender. With Spencer illustrating characteristics of a man flirting with pretty women. And of course Heidi getting very upset as his ex-fiancee.

Response to Daphne

Hi Daphne: This conversation is very interesting to me. I also kno many men who has this sort of mentality towards marriage. I believe it will be very hard for men who have this mentality to be in a relationship with a woman who is strongly against this type of life. Nowadays, there are so many women who disagree with a marriage that consist of a stay at home wife and a career husband. Indeed many women are very independent, educated, and career bounded. Though that type of lifestyle was very common in the 50s it is surely diminishing.

GENDER & NASCAR

Today while reading the Trenton, "Trentonian" I came across a very interesting article entitled, "Is There a Gender Problem." Immediately I thought about our course. The article was about 3 women who will be in the Indianapolis 500NASCAR top series. Indeed, this is the first time in history for women being apart of NASCAR. This article was very interesting to me. I never dawn to me how rare it was for women to take part in NASCAR. The chapionship will take place in the upcoming weeks. indeed, the article left me with a very empowering message as a woman that we're capable to do anything even the unexpected. Without a doubt, women are definitely setting trends throughout sports and also making history for NASCAR.
